Former NRL player Trent Merrin has been charged over his alleged involvement in a backyard peptide lab.

Mr Merrin, 37, will appear in a Wollongong court later this month after he was charged with a string of offences.

NSW Police and the Therapeutic Goods Administration earlier this year established a task force to investigate the “alleged illegal manufacture, supply and distribution of peptides”.

Police raided a Shell Cove home on July 24 and have alleged they uncovered a “clandestine peptide manufacturing facility and large quantities of restricted substances.”

A 39-year-old man was charged over his alleged involvement and his matter has been finalised by the courts, police said.

And Mr Merrin was arrested at Surry Hills Police Station on Tuesday.

He has been charged with five counts of manufacturing goods for use in humans resulting in harm/injury and one count of participating in a criminal group.

He is due to face Wollongong Local Court on November 24.

“Inquiries under Strike Force Antree remain ongoing,” NSW Police said in a statement.
