As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the schedule. But who will advance?
WTA Chennai Day 3 Predictions
Robin Montgomery vs Jeline Vandromme
Head-to-Head: Montgomery 1–0 Vandromme
Montgomery and Vandromme meet again just a few months after their US Open qualifying encounter, which the American won 7–5 6–3. Montgomery had to work harder in her Chennai opener, recovering after dropping the second set to defeat Panna Udvardy 6–4 1–6 6–1. Vandromme, meanwhile, made a more straightforward start, beating Kyoka Okamura 7–5 6–1.
The Belgian has enjoyed an encouraging season and possesses the consistency to make this competitive. However, Montgomery’s ability to generate power from both wings should give her opportunities to dictate. Having already beaten Vandromme once, the American has a useful reference point, although another demanding contest is likely.
Prediction: Montgomery in 3
Weronika Falkowska vs Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi
Head-to-Head: First meeting
Falkowska arrives after an impressive straight-sets victory over Linda Fruhvirtova. The Polish qualifier showed considerable aggression, producing 35 winners and holding her nerve in a tight opening set. Revathi, meanwhile, will have the backing of the home crowd as she looks to make the most of her wildcard opportunity.
This is a significant opportunity for the young Indian to make an impression, but Falkowska’s recent form and experience on the professional circuit make her a difficult opponent. The Pole’s ability to take the initiative should prove important, particularly if she can put pressure on Revathi’s service games.
Prediction: Falkowska in 3

Oksana Selekhmeteva vs Polina Kudermetova
Head-to-Head: Kudermetova 2–0 Selekhmeteva
Kudermetova has won both previous meetings, including a straight-sets victory in Madrid earlier this year. However, Selekhmeteva arrives in the second round after a convincing straight sets win over Teodora Kostovic, while Kudermetova had to negotiate a tougher three-set encounter against Viktoria Morvayova, eventually winning 6–3 4–6 6–1.
The Russian will need to make the most of that momentum, but Kudermetova’s previous success in this matchup gives her a clear tactical reference. The sixth seed also has the greater firepower and should be able to dictate more of the exchanges. Selekhmeteva can make this competitive, but Kudermetova’s ability to raise her level when required should see her through.
Prediction: Kudermetova in 3
Janice Tjen vs Joanna Garland
Head-to-Head: First meeting
Top seed Janice Tjen made an emphatic start to her Chennai campaign, sweeping aside Katherine Hui 6–1 6–2. Garland also impressed, defeating Jil Teichmann 6–3 6–4 to set up this second-round meeting. The Taiwanese player will offer a more experienced challenge than Tjen’s opening opponent, particularly with her ability to construct points and redirect the ball.
Nevertheless, Tjen’s aggressive baseline game and recent consistency make her a difficult player to contain. Garland will need to take the initiative rather than allow the Indonesian to dictate, but Tjen’s greater power and confidence should give her the advantage. The top seed looks well placed to continue her campaign without dropping a set.
Prediction: Tjen in 2
