Will & Grace star Debra Messing has made a very public geographical blunder.

Messing posted on social media urging her fans to “pray for Australia,” thinking the Victorian capital had been inundated with flood water.

Unbeknownst to Messing, it was actually her home country that was experiencing the flood disaster, which has come to a head in Melbourne, Florida.

Her post included a map of Florida which is experiencing historic and deadly flooding.

The Mayor of Palm Bay, Rob Medina, confirmed two people have died: 34-year-old Joshua Bennett and 74-year-old Archie Richards.

The local police reported prior that a man had been found dead in his vehicle during the flooding.

Hundreds more people have been rescued due to the severe conditions with one family even recording 38 inches of water in their living area, the Mayor said.

Messing urged her fan base to “Pray for #Australia” in the caption of her social media post along with the prayer hands emoji.

Social media users quickly picked up on the mistake.

“Oh no she didn’t,” one user wrote on X.

“This is… a lot,” another said while a third sarcastically added: “Thoughts and prayers Australia, thoughts and prayers.”

Messing hasn’t publicly addressed the mishap but has been very active online, sharing her opinions on the US election. She is a vocal supporter of Israel.

After the Bondi terror attacks, despite being in New York at the time, Messing told Sharri Markson at an event hosted by Jewish Communal Appeal, “it felt like it was October 7th again”.

Messing is no stranger to controversy and backlash.

In 2020 apologised for insinuating she hoped President Donald Trump would be sexually assaulted in prison, posting on X he would “be the most popular boyfriend”.

Despite her criticism of Donald Trump, Messing recently shared her intention to vote for Republican candidate Bruce Blakeman in the NY governor’s race.

Incumbent Democratic governor Kathy Hochul has since won the midterm election, comfortably securing another full term.
