If you build it, they will come (back).
According to The Athletic, MLB is set to host a “Field of Dreams” game in 2026.
The game, which will be the third set at a field in the middle of a Dyersville, Iowa cornfield, will feature the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies.
The game is inspired by the iconic 1989 film starring Kevin Costner in which an Iowa farmer, inspired by strange voices, builds a baseball field in his cornfield that attracts the ghosts of baseball legends.
MLB has not confirmed the news or a date for the game, but next year’s schedule will be released on Tuesday.
Two previous games between the White Sox and Yankees in 2021 and the Cubs and the Reds in 2022 took place in August.
The game typically thrives on nostalgia and motifs from baseball’s past, a broadcast with retro graphics and players from both teams emerging from the cornfield, just like in the movie.
MLB has not play a “Field of Dreams” game for the past three years while the site was sold to new owners and a permanent youth facility and fields were constructed.
Special games have instead been played at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama (paying tribute to the Negro Leagues). at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee and in Williamsport during the Little League World Series.
