Russell Brand has been described as “shaken and quiet” during his first days behind bars, with sources saying he is “in real danger”.
Brand faces a lengthy prison sentence after being found guilty of raping one woman and sexually assaulting three others at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday. Jurors unanimously convicted Brand of offences against four women between 2004 and 2009.
Mr Justice Bennathan cautioned him that he faced a “significant custodial sentence” before remanding him in custody. The judge did not give Brand the opportunity to say goodbye to his children, fearing he would flee rather than appearing before the court on Monday for sentencing, Brand loudly replied “yes My Lord”.
The prison where Brand will serve his sentence has yet to be determined, with the decision resting with the UK Prison Service. But sources suggest he is temporarily staying in Wandsworth until his sentencing hearing on Monday.
Sources have suggested he was “petrified” about spending his first night in custody last night and he is reportedly being “watched around the clock”.
Now more details have emerged following his first day in prison. Sources have described him as “shaken and quiet” and he is reportedly not allowed to mix with the wider prison population due to safety fears. Read more
