21m agoMon 25 Aug 2025 at 10:16pmWarning to check superannuation nominations

At least 6.5 million Australians will not have a say in who inherits their superannuation, according to new research from Super Consumers Australia shared exclusively with ABC News.

Australians with superannuation can make binding or non-binding nominations, informing their fund about their wishes for their money.

Non-binding nominations are, as the name suggests, not legally binding, and as Nassim Khadem reports, that has left some families “blindsided” and facing disputes when their loved ones pass away.

A survey found many people had not nominated who they wanted to receive their super savings when they died at all — while others weren’t aware if they had made a nomination or not, or what type of nomination they had made.

49m agoMon 25 Aug 2025 at 9:48pmStocks to slip as Wall Street retreats

Good morning. I’ll be joining you through the first few hours this morning. And it’s nice to be logging on in daylight in Sydney in the final week of winter!

It wasn’t sunshine for Wall Street overnight though, with the major indices retreating. It was, however, off a strong rally on Friday, local time, on optimism that the US Federal Reserve would cut interest rates.

That looks set to continue in Australian trade, with ASX futures pointing to a lower open.

Reporting season will continue today, with results due imminently from Coles, Fortescue and G8 Education among others.

The Reserve Bank will release the minutes of its August meeting, where it cut the cash rate — so central bank watchers (and journalists) will be on the lookout for any clues about future interest rate moves.
