After sharing the spoils with the All Blacks in Argentina, the Pumas head to Australia for the next two rounds of The Rugby Championship.
After the first two rounds of The Rugby Championship, Los Pumas are preparing to travel to Australia for their next two matches of the international competition. The tour of Australia will have two matches, the first being on Saturday, September 6 in Townsville, and the second on September 13 in Sydney.
The Pumas enter this stage after sharing the series against New Zealand with a defeat and a victory in Argentina. After the 41-24 loss in Cordoba, Los Pumas beat the All Blacks in Vélez by 29-23 – the latter being the first win in history against the All Blacks on Argentine soil.
The last TRC clashes between Los Pumas and Australia were last year in Argentina. The Wallabies won in La Plata by 20-19, while in Santa Fe, Los Pumas triumphed with a resounding 67-27.
Los Pumas return to Townsville four years since their last match there [pictured]. On the last visit, in 2021, the Australians won the game 27-8. In that match, Mateo Carreras, Joaquín Oviedo and Rodrigo Martínez Manzano made their debuts. However, in Sydney in 2023, Los Pumas won in Parramatta at CommBank Stadium by 34-31, where Rodrigo Isgró made his debut. This year the match in Sydney will be played at Allianz Stadium.
Los Pumas have 13 wins in the tournament: 5 against Australia and 4 against both New Zealand and South Africa.
Felipe Contepomi, head coach of Los Pumas, referred to the upcoming tour: “We closed the year at home with a great win against the All Blacks in Buenos Aires, which gives us a lot of energy for the challenging tour that lies ahead. It is important that in the next five weeks away from home we can continue to build as a team and grow day by day. We are very grateful for the support received during these weeks in Argentina and we are sure that we will find many fans cheering in Australia.”
