The fall high school sports season in Massachusetts got underway on Monday, with the Westfield Tech golf team making the trip to Northfield Golf Club to take on Pioneer.
Westfield’s Dan O’Connor was the match medalist, shooting a 41 to lead Westfield Tech to a 177-234 victory.
“It was good getting them out there and they had smiles on their faces coming off,” new Panthers head coach Roy Emerson said. “That’s a good thing. For our first match, we’ll take it.”
Mike Cyhowski and Parker Gerry tied for the low score on Pioneer after each carded a 56. Carter Gerry shot a 59 while Tucker Aldrich finished with a 63 for the Panthers.
McCann Tech 162, Athol 186 — Ethan Heuer was the match medalist with a 35 but it was the visiting Hornets who escaped with a victory at Ellinwood Country Club on Monday.
Dom St. Andre carded a 40, Owen Stoddard shot a 51, Rafeal Lopez carded a 60 while Brady Brockney (61) and Bradley Coleman (66) rounded out the lineup for Athol.
CCG’s Greenfield Open
The 58th Greenfield Open took place over the weekend at Country Club of Greenfield, with Mikey Bechard shooting the lowest score in the tournament’s history of 65 to take first place.
Lee Albertson placed second (68), Dan Lapierre came in third (70) while Chad Bullock and Will Conant tied for fourth (71). Joe Groth shot the low net (68) followed by KC Finley (69), Brendan Fleming (69), Zachary Circosta (71), Matt Bardsley (72), Michael Stemmler (72), Ron Emanuelson (72), Anthony Laurenitis (72) and Michael Duclos Jr. (72).
Pat Grogan and Matt Llewelyn tied for first in the White Tees Group with a score of 73. Andrew Wroblewski placed third (74), Jordan Haskell took fourth (75) while Tom Bresciano came in fifth (77). In net scoring Michael Duclos and Ike Purington tied for first (67) followed by Mike Laga (69), Brian Luippold (71), Chris Demers (73) and Mike Korpita (73).
Bill Betsold won the Black Tees Group (73) followed by Jack Killeen (76). Terry Sinclair carded the low net (65) and Barry Dow took second (70).
In the Women’s Group Helen Wright was the winner (76) followed by Terry Boyce (81). Christine Kuzmeskus, Raye Young and Jess Lapachinski tied for the low net (71).
Over at CCG on Friday, Elizabeth Archer and Mike Archer took first with a score of 32 in a Friday Night Mixer. Raye Young and Rich Young placed second (35). Karen Duclos and Michael Duclos shot the low net (33) followed by Nancy Robie and Paul Robie (34).
Thomas Memorial Senior Club Championship
Paul Barnard was the winner of the 2025 Thomas Memorial Senior Club Championship, carding a score of 73.
Bob Bourbeau took second (74), Darren Lenois came in third (75) while Rodney Herzig placed fourth (76).
Jon Snow shot the low net of 69 followed by Ken Adams (71) and Marty Kendrick (71).
Rodney Demers was the winner in the Super Senior Division after shooting an 81. Ned Nichols took second (82) and Bill Chalmers came in third (85). Art Girard carded the low net (65) followed by Todd Currie (69) and Mike Waterman (72).
Sally Malloy won the Women’s Senior Club Championship after shooting an 87. Deb Cote placed second (92). Terry Adams recorded the low net (69) followed by Hilda Worden (78).
