Former triple j host Ash McGregor has joined GYRO.Group’s DIY retail distribution platform GYROstream, which has just rebranded to G.Y.R.O. – Get.Your.Record.Out.
The independent digital distribution and artist services company turned over a new leaf in July with the brand refresh. The newly-unveiled entity gathers the Brisbane business’s expanding portfolio of activities under the one banner, including GYROstream, DistroDirect, GROUP SPEED and Soothe Sounds.
For seven years, GYROstream has been helping artists build their careers their way. The new G.Y.R.O. is set to capture the energy and ambition that has driven the company from day one, while opening the door to what comes next.
“Bigger vision. Expanded services. One goal: taking artists from debut to house hold name.”
G.Y.R.O.’s Head of Marketing Alison Bremner said the name has evolved, but the focus hasn’t: “G.Y.R.O. reflects growth, not reinvention. It’s a sharper expression of the same mission we’ve had since day one.
“This brand evolution is about meeting Australian and New Zealand talent where they are today, and where they want to be tomorrow,” she said.
McGregor will step into the role of Artist Partnerships Manager, where she will continue her advocacy for independent artists within the Australian music industry. She will also strengthen G.Y.R.O.’s connections with industry bodies and educational institutions by curating valuable resources, experiences, and opportunities.
She joins the company after five years at triple j. She joined 2020 as a Breakfast Producer, quickly becoming a key part of the broadcaster’s local music programming. She has hosted Home & Hosed since 2023, taking over from Declan Byrne, and has expanded the show from one hour to two, creating more space to spotlight Australia’s thriving music scene.
A passionate supporter of homegrown artists, McGregor has helped countless acts land their first spin on national radio. From hosting live festival broadcasts and One Night Stand events to steering triple j’s Gig Guide and delivering elevator pitches and artist recs across the station’s socials, she has been instrumental in connecting audiences with Australian talent.
Beyond triple j, her work as a presenter and host has spammed MTV, Nickelodeon, Global Radio London, Nova, 4ZZZ, and SeaFM, alongside a number of live events.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the team at G.Y.R.O., continuing to work closely with local independent artists and making sure their talent cuts through,” McGregor said.
“Independent music is the lifeblood of the Australian scene, and G.Y.R.O. is doing vital work to make sure their voices are heard on a global stage. I can’t wait to champion the music and stories coming through the platform, uncover new acts and support artists in reaching the next step in their careers.”
G.Y.R.O. launched in Brisbane in 2018, and has since worked with tens of thousands of artists including Ruel, Ruby Fields, Tom Cardy, The Tullamarines, The Amity Afflication, The Dreggs, Polish Club, Emma Memma, and more.
It now has an expanded suite of services, including digital marketing, publicity, brand partnerships, sync licensing, publishing, and creator campaigns.
CEO and Co-Founder Andy Irvine said being a part of the wider GYRO.Group means they can “take artists from release day to world tours – and everything in between.”
He said: “We’ve scaled up, but our mission stays the same: Artist First. Always.”
Led by Bremner, the rebrand is a collaboration with creative studio Pretty-Soon. Known for their deep connection to the music industry, the studio has worked with brands including Red Bull Music, Future Classic, Atlantic Records, Apple Music, and artists like Becca Hatch, Ta-ku, Wafia, and Panama.
“Partnering with the G.Y.R.O. team on their rebrand journey felt like the perfect sync of creative ambition and cultural change. Being so passionate about both the music industry and community, we’re proud to add our fingerprint to such a transformative platform for artists, local and abroad,” said Pretty-Soon’s Design Director Mike Souvanthalisith.
