Warner Bros.’ “Weapons” held the No. 1 position at the U.K. and Ireland box office for a third consecutive weekend, taking in £1.1 million ($1.5 million) and lifting its total to £8.6 million ($11.7 million), according to Comscore.
Disney’s “Freakier Friday” stayed strong in second place with $1 million, pushing its cumulative tally to $7.8 million after three weeks. Sony’s “Materialists” followed at No. 3, grossing $749,131 for a running total of $3.5 million.
Rounding out the upper half of the chart, Universal’s animated sequel “The Bad Guys 2” placed fourth with $691,083 for a cumulative $13.8 million, while Disney’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” remained a steady presence at No. 5 with $686,093, bringing its total to $29.7 million.
The highest new entry of the weekend was Studiocanal’s “The Life Of Chuck,” debuting in sixth place on $657,280. Paramount’s reboot of “The Naked Gun” slipped to No. 7 but added $529,597, moving its total to $8.8 million.
At No. 8, Universal’s “Jurassic World Rebirth” continues to show stamina in its eighth week, collecting $355,761 for a cumulative $47.2 million. “Nobody 2,” also from Universal, was in ninth with $334,849, reaching $1.5 million. Universal scored another new entry at No. 10 with “Eddington,” which opened to $334,403.
The final weekend of August brings a mix of prestige, nostalgia, and genre fare to U.K. and Ireland cinemas.
Sony Pictures rolls out Darren Aronofsky’s “Caught Stealing,” starring Austin Butler, while Disney counters with “The Roses,” headlined by Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman, adding fresh studio firepower to the frame. Warner Bros. revisits one of its crown jewels with a 20th anniversary re-release of “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” expected to draw audiences back into Hogwarts.
BFI Distribution offers Berlin and Tribeca-winning Slovenian drama “Little Trouble Girls” from Urška Djukić, while Signature Entertainment unveils Macon Blair’s “The Toxic Avenger Uncut,” starring Peter Dinklage, Jacob Tremblay and Kevin Bacon, in an uncut version of the cult classic. Universal celebrates the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws,” while Vertigo Releasing revisits Yorgos Lanthimos’ breakthrough with a 4K restoration of “Dogtooth.”
Specialist distributors also weigh in with the Dardenne brothers’ Cannes-winning “Young Mothers” from Curzon, TAPE Collective’s mother-daughter culinary musical “In The Nguyen Kitchen,” and Icon Film Distribution’s L.A. Outfest-winning “Big Boys,” a coming-of-age tale from director Corey Sherman. A24 adds Spike Lee’s “Highest 2 Lowest,” starring Denzel Washington, to the lineup. Bakrania Media brings Bollywood film “Param Sundari” to audiences.
The weekend also features concert experiences and event cinema. Piece of Magic Entertainment presents “Andre Rieu’s 2025 Maastricht Concert: Waltz The Night Away!” on Aug. 30, while Pathé Live contributes“Prince: Sign O’ The Times.”
Anime Ltd closes out the week with “Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing,” arriving on Aug. 31.
