Isle of Wight cricket teams were out on the field this August Bank Holiday weekend – with Ventnor’s Archie Lucy impressing again with a five wicket haul.
Lucy tore through opponents Hambledon’s top order for cheap dismissals, and completed his five-for with the last wicket – accumulating a brilliant 24 for 5

However, it wasn’t to be for the Island side, as Hambledon bowled tightly to leave Ventnor 19 runs short of the target.
In the Hampshire Cricket League, Ashley Goldsmith saw Ryde over the line with the bat, the ball and in the field.

Goldsmith top scored with 33, as well as taking four wickets and four catches to see through a 22 run victory.
Ventnor 2nd XI’s Martin Blackman scored 32, while Toby Noyes scored 35.
Elsewhere in the league, Shanklin and Godshill’s Ben White took three wickets, restricting Locks Heath’s innings to 207.
The Island side, anchored by George Niemiec’s 46 and Tom Quaife’s 45 not out, claimed a two wicket victory.

G Gosden’s 106 not out for Freshwater, supported by G Freeston’s 30 and O Hooper’s 39 saw the West Wight side triumph over Northwood’s 2nd XI, despite G Griffith’s 57 and N Stafford’s 52.
S Vandecasteele took three wickets for Freshwater.
Arreton successfully chased down Shanklin and Godshill’s 3rd XI thanks to a massive opening partnership as Gary Cooper made 88 and Louis Vanassche scored 73.
The losing side had some individual brilliance, with Charlie Bligh making 61 and Max Bushby-Harris scoring 44.
Ollie Maidman took three wickets for Arreton, and Howson took three for Shanklin and Godshill.

Newport’s 2nd XI won against Ventnor’s 4th team, with C Howles scoring 51, Swagath Chanila Ramachandra scoring 57, and Steven Steinmetz making 43.
Ben Fry made 62 and Alistair Cotton made 36 for the losing side, while half-centurion C Howles took three wickets.
Newport’s Womens team beat Ventnor by seven wickets, after Ventnor were bowled out for 55 runs thanks to three wickets from Lucy Scholes and four wickets from Sandy Dye.
