As a subpar golfer who works at Golf Digest with former college athletes, long hitters and gear obsessives, it sometimes gets a bit stressful teeing off with coworkers. Obviously, it’s all for fun and no one (hopefully) is too competitive, but my ultimate goal is always to not embarrass myself and keep the round moving. The worst thing I can do is grind everything to a halt and shoot an extra 30-40 shots … which is precisely what happened to this unfortunate Redditor who supposedly(?) still has a job.
The post’s title is bone-chilling: 15hc shot a 120 in front of my boss who shot a 65. AMA [Ask Me Anything]. And it doesn’t get any better from there. This may not be NSFW for everybody, but it certainly is for yours truly.

“Title says it all,” writes r/golf poster Surf_skate_ski. (Their name notably doesn’t have the word golf.) “After a summer of shooting low 90’s high 80’s very consistently I finally convinced my ex pro boss to take me out to the private club. Proceeded to shit bricks and didn’t make one par the whole round. AMA.”
It’s not just the 120 and the terrifyingly awkward poor play, but to do that all right next to a 65? That makes it so much worse. The score was very nearly doubled!
The first question (and answer) says it all: “Are you going to quit golf forever and how long will you quit forever for?” To which OP responds, “If I still have a job come tomorrow, I’ll quit until next time. If I don’t, I’ll still quit until next time.”

It gets even worse when you find out there’s a bit of fibbing involved. Don’t lie about your golf game if you’re going to eventually play some golf.
“The best part is three years ago when I interviewed for the position I had never golfed in my life,” this daredevil writes. “He asked me what my handicap was and I lied and said ‘couple over par.’ Kept that lie going until today and had to eat my words.
“I lied during the interview because I’d never golfed in my life and didn’t understand how stupid what I said was.”
In classic golf-sicko fashion, Surf_skate_ski went on to blame everything but himself, “Honestly I think it was the course. It was really tight and the bunkers were ferocious. I just got put in my place from playing the local municipal to a challenging course with fast greens.”
Tossing the blame onto the course during a low moment? Not accepting any fault? Maybe this individual is a true golfer after all.
