SMU has elevated David Kress to the role of Chief Strategist, and added David Serge as a Graduate Assistant.

David Kress

Kress is in his first season as the Chief Strategist (2025-26) after a season as a graduate assistant with SMU Men’s Basketball.

This is his second stint with the Mustang program. Prior to rejoining SMU in May 2024, Kress spent three seasons as a student manager at USC (2021-24) under Coach Enfield. He began his undergraduate career at SMU with the Mustangs as a student manager (2019-21) with the men’s basketball program prior to transferring to USC.

Kress graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in Computer Engineering in May 2024. He is currently working towards a masters degree in Business Analytics at SMU in the Cox School of Business.

David Serge

He joins the Mustangs after three seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers (2022-25), serving on the staffs of head coaches Darvin Ham (2022-24) and JJ Redick (2024-25). Serge was a coaching associate as the Lakers made the 2023 Western Conference Finals and an assistant video coordinator as they made the 2024 and 2025 NBA Playoffs. Serge was also team attendant in the “NBA Bubble” in the summer of 2020.

He previously worked with Head Coach Andy Enfield as a graduate assistant at USC (2021-22) as the Trojans made the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

Serge played collegiately at Cal from 2018-20 after serving as a student manager for the Golden Bears from 2016-18.
