Heidelberg United will target their third Cupset of 2025 when they host Auckland in the first Semi Final.

United have been the Cupsetters of the tournament, now holding the most in competition history with four. It has not just been the standalone results but the manner of the scorelines that have drawn attention.

They started with a modest 2-0 win over NPL Northern NSW outfit Weston Bears in the Round of 32. From there, Heidelberg recorded a stunning 3-0 victory against Western Sydney Wanderers.

The big win earned another top-flight clash with Wellington Phoenix, dispatching their A-League opponents in similarly spectacular fashion — a 4-0 victory, which saw them through to their first-ever Cup Semi Final. The emphatic result broke the record for the biggest-ever Cupset in the competition.

Among the standouts on this historic run is Japanese maestro Asahi Yokokawa. The 23-year-old’s playmaking efforts have been key to United’s chance-creation, with Yokokawa contributing two goals and two assists in three matches.

Elsewhere on the field, winger Max Bisetto scored his second goal of the Cup against the Phoenix, while skipper Ben Collins and Ryan Lethlean were impenetrable at the back.

Auckland’s first Hahn Australia Cup has been impressive, securing comprehensive wins over Gold Coast United and Heidelberg’s NPL Victoria rivals South Melbourne. A dramatic penalty victory over Sydney FC, where goalkeeper Michael Woud proved the hero for Auckland, producing a crucial save in the shootout en route to the Semi Finals.

Lachlan Brook scored his first Auckland goal in the Quarter Finals, with attacker Jesse Randall, Auckland’s top goalscorer in the Cup, scoring three so far.

Record-breaking Heidelberg have the opportunity to extend their season on Saturday, but reigning A-League Men’s Premiers Auckland pose a tangible threat.
