Former Anupamaa actor Gaurav Khanna, currently a contestant on Bigg Boss 19, has become the subject of online trolling after refusing to take up cooking duties inside the house. The criticism sharpened when social media users pointed out that Khanna had won the recent season of Celebrity MasterChef India yet appeared reluctant to handle kitchen responsibilities on the reality show.
Amid growing backlash, Khanna’s team issued a clarification. Sharing a detailed note on X, they wrote, “Let’s be clear — MasterChef and Bigg Boss cooking aren’t the same. At MasterChef, Gaurav worked with guidance, preparing one plated dish with finesse. In Bigg Boss, it’s about cooking daily meals for people, with no supervision.”
The statement added that Khanna had never cooked before joining Celebrity MasterChef and his victory came through learning, adapting, and performing under pressure. “Winning that title was about determination, not prior skill. Judging him today on the basis of one statement about Indian food is unfair. We stand by you, #GK,” it read.
The row began after a recent episode where house captain Kunickaa Sadanand asked Khanna to cook. The actor declined, stating he cannot prepare Indian food. Explaining his stance further, he told housemates, “I have come here for a reason, to win and not to cook. Everyone here has a democracy, I also have one, and I will keep my point.”
Former Bigg Boss contestant Rajiv Adatia also stepped in to defend Khanna. In a video, he explained the difference between competitive cooking and managing daily meals inside the house. “Winning Celebrity MasterChef and cooking for 20-25 people in Bigg Boss are two different things. Cooking for such large numbers is very different from preparing one dish,” he said. Adatia stressed that Khanna was never a professional chef and argued that expecting him to cater for a houseful of contestants was unreasonable.
Meanwhile, the season continues with contestants including Amaal Mallik, Awez Darbar, Ashnoor Kaur, Baseer Ali, Zeishan Quadri, and others locked inside the house. Wildcards are expected to join in the coming weeks, adding to the drama.
