Fulton initially caught the attention of the Timberwolves with his displays in the college game where he represented Lafayette and the Charleston Cougars, averaging 7.8 points and 6.5 assists per game for the latter during his senior year.
He missed out on selection in the NBA draft in June but can still realise his dream of appearing in the league after signing for the Timberwolves.
Fulton will be part of the back-to-back Western Conference finalists’ squad for their six exhibition games.
He will then link up with the development squad, Iowa Wolves, who play in the G-League – the NBA’s team-affiliated development league, a move which Fulton thinks can help him improve as he will be afforded regular game time.
“I came back home after summer league, didn’t really know what the story was going to be, but I was talking to the general director and agreed to sign a deal with them to go out there for a few weeks then I’ll be heading to Iowa where the G league team is based,” he added.
“It’s a way of keeping me around the franchise and working my way up. It’s a great opportunity for me to go in learn as much as I can and enjoy it. It gives me a bit of confidence going back that I am obviously doing something right.
“I thought I’d be coming back to Europe a few months ago and figure out what leagues I could play at in Europe, so I didn’t expect to be in this position but now I am I just want to make the most of it and it’s the best position I could be in after college.”
