Ayuso’s long-term deal ends after a turbulent Vuelta and “differences in vision” with the team.
Juan Ayuso will leave UAE Team Emirates-XRG at the end of the 2025 season, the team confirmed Monday, cutting short a contract that had been due to run through 2028. The 22-year-old Spaniard, long tipped as one of cycling’s brightest Grand Tour prospects, is departing after what the team described as “differences in the vision of development plans and in the alignment with the team’s sporting philosophy.”
Ayuso is still racing the Vuelta a España, where he has experienced both highs and lows in recent days. He won a mountain stage to Cerler from the breakaway a day after cracking badly on the stage to Andorra. On Sunday, he lost over 21 minutes and offered no support to team leader João Almeida, who sits third overall, later telling Marca: “I was quite tired and couldn’t help the team much. I’m not in the fight for the overall, so there’s no point in pushing for the sake of pushing.”
