The Canadian Open lost some major star power on Sunday when Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner, French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz and 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic pulled out of the event.
They followed world No. 5 Jack Draper among top men’s players to withdraw from the tournament, which from July 27-Aug. 7 at Sobeys Stadium in Toronto.
The tournament reported that Sinner and Djokovic are out, while Marca reported that Alcaraz was also withdrawing.
No. 3 Alexander Zverev is still in the event as are other Top 10 stars including Taylor Fritz, Lorenzo Musetti and Holger Rune, plus Canadians Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Sinner, Alcaraz, Djokovic and Draper are still scheduled to play the Cincinnati Open, the last major warm-up event for the U.S. Open. Cincinnati runs Aug. 5-18 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.
Sinner, who beat Alcaraz for his first Wimbledon title earlier this month, is the defending champion at that event. Djokovic won it three times (2023, 2020, 2018).

The USTA and Billie Jean King Cup captain Lindsay Davenport announced that Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys, Emma Navarro, Hailey Baptiste and Taylor Townsend will represent the USA in the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Finals, to be played September 16-21 at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre Arena in Shenzhen, China.
Coco Gauff, the top-ranked American woman, will not compete.
Billie Jean King Cup is the World Cup of Women’s Tennis, and the Finals – an eight-nation, knockout-style bracket – will crown this year’s champion. The U.S. will play Kazakhstan in its quarterfinal tie on Thursday, September 18, with the winner advancing to play the winner of Great Britain and Japan in the semifinals. Each tie will be a best-of-three competition with two singles matches and one doubles match, played on an indoor hard court. The United States is the all-time leader with 18 Billie Jean King Cup titles and will hope to add to that this year by bringing a veteran team with three players ranked in the Top 11 in singles, the world doubles No. 2 and one of its stars from this year’s Qualifying.
