Hawthorn is headed the habour city to take on the GWS Giants in an Elimination Final.

The stage is set for Hawthorn’s finals campaign with a meeting against the GWS Giants in an Elimination Final at ENGIE Stadium.

Hawthorn finished eighth to set up its visit to take on the fifth-placed Giants. The two sides have met once in 2025 back in Round 3, with the Hawks walking away winners on that occasion.

The Hawks closed out the home and away season with 15 wins and eight losses, while for the Giants it was 16 and 7.

There’s everything to play for come Saturday afternoon, with the winning team to progress to a Semi Final, while the loser’s season will be finished.

Last time we met

Hawthorn (76) defeated GWS Giants (64) in Round 3, 2025.

Hawthorn managed a come-from-behind win, rallying from a five-goal opening term deficit to topple Greater Western Sydney by 12 points to continue an unbeaten start to the year.

All 11 first-half goals were scored with the wind, with GWS opening up a 37-2 lead at quarter-time. Hawthorn came to life at the back-end of the second term with the breeze at its back, kicking six goals in 13 minutes for a 46-39 half-time lead.

The Hawks had nine individual goal scorers, with veteran Jack Gunston getting a double. Hawks big man Lloyd Meek outpointed the Giants rucks and finished with 31 hitouts, while Cam Mackenzie had a team-high 30 disposals, Will Day and Nick Watson were heavily involved.
