Booking through a travel agent is meant to take the stress out of planning a trip, but for some, it turned their dream holiday into a nightmare.

Online travel agency Traveldream has entered voluntary administration, leaving its many Australian customers out of pocket.

It has highlighted the risks of booking through a third-party travel agent, instead of directly through airlines or hotels.

The Melbourne-based company, which sells discounted flights, cruises and international tour packages, is estimated to owe customers $1.42 million and also paid another travel company, My Travel Experience (MTE), about $1.22 million.

With MTE also going into administration, customers are unlikely to see a cent of their money.

We want to know if you have been impacted or have had a similar experience with a third-party travel agency.
