The Business Council of Australia has thrown its support behind a commitment to net zero carbon emissions but says a 2035 climate target north of 60 per cent will require more than $400 billion in new capital investment from government and industry.
Achieving emissions reductions of 60 per cent on 2005 levels over the next decade will also require an additional 59,000 workers by 2030 in electrical and engineering trades, according to modelling by McKinsey for the BCA.
