The Inertia

The hype around Hurricane Erin is only just winding down, and already there’s a new storm on the horizon. Though it is significantly less momentous than Erin, Tropical Storm Fernand has also been kicking up its share of swell, and of course Ben Gravy was there to surf it.

Gravy’s goal, this year, has been to surf every named storm in some way or another. Remarkably, he’s managed to keep up with an already busy season. So far, he has logged wave time in Tropical Storm Andrea, Tropical Storm Barry, Tropical Storm Chantal, Tropical Storm Dexter, and, of course, Hurricane Erin.

Though it was smaller than Erin, Fernand was not without its challenges for the YouTuber. Gravy had only returned the night before from an Erin-related surf trip, and was experiencing a bit of whiplash. “I got back from my trip up north last night at 12:41 a.m.,” he explained.”However, Tropical Storm Fernand is not giving me an opportunity to recover. So, here we are, on our way to the beach.”

So what did Fernand have in store? Things looked fun, but it was decidedly not the sort of historic madness we saw in the wake of Erin. Gravy busted out the soft-top to scratch the face of some waist-high peaks.

Anything to keep the streak going, though.
