If you asked ChatGPT how much power artificial intelligence uses, it would tell you: “the amount of energy artificial intelligence uses can vary hugely, depending on the type of model and its usage.”
By some estimates, that response alone requires around 10 times the electricity of a Google search and with more than 400 million active users of ChatGPT every week, that extra energy demand begins to add up fast.
So can Australia’s energy grid keep up with the demands of AI and the data centres behind them?
