“Saturday Night Live” alum Jorma Taccone can’t walk but is still recovering from a shattered pelvis and detached sacrum after falling from a 20-foot ladder at his Connecticut home.
The comedian and Lonely Island member revealed the incident on Tuesday’s episode of the podcast, “The Lonely Island & Seth Meyers‚” which he co-hosts with fellow Lonely Island members Akiva Schaffer and Andy Samberg and talk show host Seth Meyers.
The Lonely Island is known for the digital shorts the comedy trio created for SNL from about 2005-2010, including “Lazy Sunday,” “[Expletive] in a Box,” and “I’m on a Boat.”
“There’s a barn, and the back half of the barn has a big white wall. And I was like, ‘Oh, this is great. We can do a big mural,’” Taccone said to his co-hosts. “The mural would be very, very large at the top. The apex of this barn is like 25 feet.”
The comedian and director elaborated that he had borrowed a 20-foot ladder from his neighbor, who warned him that it did not have stable footing. Taccone was hanging lights around the barn when he fell directly on his butt.
“I literally have enough time as I’m falling to be like, ‘I’m going to die,’” he said in the podcast.
The accident happened Aug. 31, on the morning of his daughter’s 5th birthday, according to Us Weekly. Taccone had surgery and said his doctors expect him to be able to walk again within three to six months.
“It’s been a really scary week, and we’re glad that you didn’t hit your head and that you’re not dead,” Schaffer said.
Taccone was a writer and performer on SNL from 2005 to 2014. He has since directed the 2010 film “MacGruber” and its 2021 television sequel. He has also starred in films such as “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3.”
