Marc Soler took his fourth career Vuelta a España stage victory and the seventh so far in this race for his UAE Team Emirates-XRG squad atop La Farrapona on Saturday’s stage 14.
The 31-year-old Spaniard joined the early break on the short but challenging stage in Asturias, and he soloed away from his fellow escapees on the final climb. Despite the pace set by his own UAE team in what was left of the peloton, Soler stayed clear into the last few kilometers and held on to win even as the GC riders started attacking each other behind him.
After Soler secured the stage 14 victory, race leader Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) outkicked João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) in a battle for bonus seconds as Jai Hindley (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) took fourth and made some gains of his own on the rest of the GC hopefuls.
