Naz Reid is mourning the loss of his sister Toraya Reid.
The NBA star’s 28-year-old sister was found dead with gunshot wounds near the exit of an apartment building on Sept. 6 in Jackson Township, New Jersey, according to a press release from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Jackson Township police officers responded to the scene after receiving calls of shots fired and an unresponsive female in the roadway, per the release. Upon arrival, authorities saw a 29-year-old man, later identified to be Shaquille Green, running down a nearby street. He was then taken into custody.
“A subsequent investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit,” the press release stated, “identified Green—who has been in a dating relationship with Ms. Reid—as the individual responsible for her death.”
Shaquille has been transported to an Ocean County jail, where he awaits a detention hearing, and faces charges including murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with Toraya’s death.
E! News has reached out to Shaquille’s lawyer for comment but has not heard back.
