The GIANTS would like to congratulate Lachlan Keeffe on a fantastic career.
The GIANTS would like to thank Lachlan Keeffe for his incredible contribution to the club and congratulate him on a wonderful AFL career.
One of the game’s longest servants, Keeffe has announced his playing days are over after 119 games across 17 seasons for both the GIANTS and Collingwood.
Joining the GIANTS ahead of the 2018 season after 40 games over nine seasons for the Magpies, Keeffe quickly established himself as the ultimate team man and a heart and soul player at the GIANTS.
An incredibly diverse utility and a beloved figure at the club, Keeffe leaves behind a legacy as one of the most trusted, reliable, and caring teammates in the club’s history.
Keeffe was utilised in several positions across eight seasons and 79 games for the GIANTS, playing as a key forward, a key defender, and as a back-up ruck throughout his time in orange and charcoal.
Fittingly, one of the 35-year-old’s last moments in a GIANTS’ jumper at AFL level saw the ever-reliable veteran kick the match-winning goal in the club’s epic round one win over the Demons at the MCG – further highlighting his ability to stand tall when it mattered.
Originally drafted by Collingwood in the 2009 Rookie Draft, Keeffe made his AFL debut back in round 16, 2011 and soon became a permanent fixture in the Magpies’ senior side until he was sidelined for a year after suffering an ACL injury in round nine the following season.
Ending his time with the Magpies following the conclusion of the 2017 season, Keeffe was soon signed by the GIANTS where over the next eight seasons he would go on to become one of the club’s most dependable players on the field and one of its most popular characters off it.
While also playing in multiple finals series, Keeffe’s best season in orange and charcoal came in 2022 where he played 18 games as a key pillar primarily in defence.
Highlighting his durability and his ability to get the very most out of himself, only six players throughout the competition in 2025 have been on an AFL list longer than Keeffe – Scott Pendlebury, Travis Boak, Todd Goldstein, Patrick Dangerfield, Taylor Walker, and the GIANTS’ own Callan Ward.
With the announcement of his retirement, Keeffe brings a close to a remarkably resilient career which featured an ACL injury, a lacerated kidney, and 17 seasons across two clubs.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, acknowledged Keeffe’s remarkable resilience and longevity.
“Lachlan should be incredibly proud of the way he has carried himself across 17 seasons in the AFL, and we congratulate him on a remarkable career,” McCartney said.
“Since arriving at the club in 2018, Lachie has been the ultimate team man – reliable, selfless, and one of the most respected and admired figures at the club.
“He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, character, and care for his teammates, and we thank him for the enormous contribution he has made both on and off the field.
“We were privileged to watch Lachlan’s journey from Collingwood to becoming a much-loved GIANT, and we wish him and his family nothing but the very best as he embarks on the next chapter of his life.”
