Most Australians will wake up tomorrow morning to a flood of Apple and iPhone 17 news. However, a few sicks individuals won’t wait until sunrise to get their annual Apple fix. Those especially eager to see Tim Cook and Co. get up on stage and strut their stuff will need to be up by 3:00am AEST tomorrow morning (September 10) if they want to watch the iPhone 17 “Awe Dropping” event live.
Here’s how and when to watch this year’s Apple event live and what to expect.
Where to watch the iPhone 17 event
The annual Apple Event is livestreamed in a few locations. If you’ll be watching from an Apple device, the event will be streamed live via the Apple TV app. But you’ll also be able to watch it on the official Apple website or YouTube on any compatible device. In fact, why not watch it right here?
When to watch the Apple iPhone 17 event in Australia
No matter where you are in Australia, you’re going to be getting up very early in the morning. So early, it shouldn’t even be called morning, legally.
On Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), the Apple livestream will begin at 3:00am. Here’s how that translates for the rest of Australia.
AEST: 3:00am
ACST: 2:30am
AWST: 1:00am
What to expect from the Apple iPhone 17 event
Not to jinx it, but there’s a slim chance that this year’s Apple Event will actually be kind of exciting. For one, the iPhone Air is said to be making an appearance; a long-rumoured “ultra-thin” iPhone model that will reportedly replace the iPhone Plus SKU. In addition to that and the regular iPhone upgrades, Bloomberg has also reported that there will be three new Apple Watch models (Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3 and a new Apple Watch SE) and AirPods Pro 3, which were last revised back in 2022. We’re also hoping for more significant Apple TV 4K and HomePod upgrades but that might just be wishful thinking.
Here’s a list of announcements to expect from the Apple “Awe Dropping” Event:
iPhone 17
iPhone 17 Air
iPhone 17 Pro
iPhone 17 Pro Max
Apple Watch Series 11
Apple Watch Ultra 3
Apple Watch SE (Gen 3)
Apple AirPods Pro 3
As usual, the iPhone 17 rumours have been bubbling away since the day the iPhone 16 was released. Top-level upgrades are rumoured to include a new, wider camera bump (akin to the Google Pixel 10) on Pro models, the new A19 chipset, and higher resolution FaceTime cameras. The base model iPhone 17 is said to finally have a ProMotion 120Hz display which was probably the biggest Pro holdover from the last few releases.
If you’re already dead-set on getting the iPhone 17, it’s a good time to start thinking about whether you want to pay it off on a plan or buy it outright. Here’s a quick look at some of the most popular mobile plans from the providers who will be supplying the latest iPhone (just remember to factor in the handset cost when doing your research).
