WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University football team will play its first conference road game of the 2025 season against Minnesota State University Moorhead on Saturday, September 13th at 12:00pm at Nemzek Stadium in Moorhead, Minn.
The NSIC matchup will feature two teams who were both victors last week in their respective opening NSIC games. WSU won 21-17 in a comeback victory over (RV) Bemidji State while MSU Moorhead dominated Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) 51-3.
The Warriors won last year’s matchup 33-6 at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium against the Dragons.

Winona State Notes:Â
The Warriors (1-1, 1-0 NSIC) enter the 2025 season voted to finish ninth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.Â
Brian Curtin won his first career game as head coach for the Warriors last week.
Winona State finished 2-3 on the road last season and 2-4 in 2023.Â
Winona State is 37-38-1 all-time against MSU Moorhead, with the Warriors being 8-2 in the last ten matchups.
Quarterback Jackson Flottmeyer will look to lead the offense after he went 17-of-29 for 143 yards in the air with a TD pass in last week’s win against Bemidji State.
Anthony Powell will look to power the run game after running for 85 yards on 13 attempts and two touchdowns a week ago, including the decisive 32-yard run to put the Warriors ahead in the 4th quarter.
The Warriors will look to use a strong receiving core to their advantage, as Jim Curtin, James Durst, and Joe Sikma all have over 60 receiving yards on the year.
Conner Haggerty was named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week after his phenomenal performance against Bemidji State. He recorded seven tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles, including a game-sealing strip sack fumble with 0:18 seconds left in the game.
The defense will also turn to Blake Schraufnagel, Jacob Anderson, Brent Jeske, Griffin Weigel, and David Nies to hold down the fort. All five players have ten or more tackles on the 2025 campaign.
Following this week’s game, the Warriors will return home and face NSIC foe Minot State University for a 1:00pm kickoff on Saturday, September 20th.

MSU Moorhead Notes:
The Dragons (2-0, 1-0 NSIC) enter the 2025 season voted to finish seventh in the NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.Â
The Beavers enter the weekend rolling after a big 51-3 victory over SMSU.
MSUM is second in the NSIC in offensive as they average 47.5 points per game and 455 yard per game.
Quarterback Jack Strand leads all NSIC QBs with 655 passing yards and 11 touchdowns through two games.
The Dragons will rely on receiver Gage Florence in the passing game. Florence has recorded a NSIC leading 21 receptions in two games, including 17 in his season debut against Northern Michigan.
Defensively, Mitchell Jezierski and Tate Gustafson each have recorded 20 or more tackles this season.
The Dragons combined for nine TFLs and four sacks in their first two victories in 2025.
Following this weekend, the Dragons will stay at home as they play Wayne State on Saturday, September 20th at 12pm.
