Since the 49ers made him a third-round pick in 2023, Moody has struggled with his accuracy. In his rookie season, he missed four field goal attempts, including three under 50 yards, and went 60 of 61 on PATs. He struggled mightily in 14 games last year, missing 10 of 34 field goal attempts and one PAT.
The Niners brought Greg Joseph into camp to push the 25-year-old kicker, but stuck with their draft pick.
Shanahan gave Moody leash despite the issues. One game into the 2025 season, however, he cut the kicker loose. Thirty-two games was enough.
The Niners don’t currently have another kicker on the roster or practice squad.
