PORTLAND, Maine — Current and retired law enforcement officers gathered in Portland today to honor fallen officers.

The event was hosted by Portland Police and the Honor Roll Association, a cycling group composed of current and former officers.

The Honor Roll sponsors cycling events across the United States to pay tribute to officers who have died in the line of duty.

Ellen Pierson, Director of the Honor Roll, said, “Law enforcement is a strong brother and sisterhood….we don’t want to forget those who succumbed to injuries and horrible events before us. We have several goals…one is to raise public awareness for our profession, and we also pay it forward by contributing to local law enforcement charities in the towns and cities we ride through.”

Funds raised at today’s event will benefit the ‘100 Club of Maine,’ an organization that provides assistance to families of first responders who died in the line of duty.
