Geelong Cats congratulates Steven King on his appointment as senior coach of Melbourne Football Club.

King has spent the last two seasons at the Club as an assistant coach, contributing a total of 13 years’ service to the Club as a player and coach.

The former ruckman played 193 games for the Cats (240 games in total) across his 11 years as a player, was Geelong captain from 2003-2006 and played in the Club’s drought-breaking Premiership in 2007.

King joined the Cats in his current role at the end of the 2023 season after 12 years coaching at the Gold Coast Suns and Western Bulldogs.

Geelong Cats Executive General Manager – Football Andrew Mackie thanked King for his contribution to the Cats.

“We are thrilled to see Steven get this opportunity to become a senior coach. Steven’s coaching career and development has been influenced by many across the industry, and we congratulate him on his appointment,” Mackie said.

“Steven has had a significant impact on the Club in his playing and coaching roles. He is an excellent coach and our players have benefited from his experience and knowledge over the last two seasons.

“As an important part of our 2025 campaign, we are pleased Steven will remain in his role until the conclusion of our season.”
