CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s tennis team had a strong day two of the Jake Frederick Memorial Islander Open hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
 
In doubles, junior Santiago Serrano and sophomore Loic Young Kriegel picked up a dominant 6-1 victory over Jules Moucquot and Maxime Salesses from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to advance to the green draw finals.
 
In singles action, freshman Luke Bishop defeated Lamar’s Axel Bergh in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) to advance to the finals. In the blue west draw, junior Ivo Isqueiro won a dramatic three-set victory, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3), over UT San Antonio’s Constantin Radu in the blue west draw.
 
In the pink round robin section, sophomore Francisco Gamez played three tiebreakers in his 7-6 (7-0), 6-7 (7-4), 1-0 (10-7) three-set victory over Lubbock Christian’s Zachary Hazel.
 
The tournament will conclude tomorrow with doubles beginning at 8:30 a.m.
