Police are searching for a person, who they believe to be armed with a gun, and have locked down several streets at Glenview near Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast.

An emergency declaration was declared under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) at 12.55pm on Sunday after emergency services were called to Old Caloundra Road.

Authorities say a stolen vehicle crashed outside a property before the occupants, one reportedly armed, fled on foot and began hiding in the area.

No-one has been hurt and no shots have been fired, but police are warning residents to avoid the area encompassing the Bruce Highway interchange with Caloundra Road East and Racecourse Road South to the intersection with Fred Chaplain Circuit. 

Specialist police are involved as the search continues.
