Stakes heightened and playoff paths sharpened as the dust settled Saturday, with the poll’s top seven teams all seeing wins. But others in the rankings — including No. 8 Notre Dame, No. 11 South Carolina and No. 12 Clemson — weren’t so lucky.
No. 5 Miami crushed No. 18 South Florida’s dream run, so will it cost the Bulls their poll spot? Will No. 6 Georgia fall after needing overtime to win on the road at No. 15 Tennessee?

Who might join the rankings? Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, SMU and Baylor all received votes last week and are among Saturday’s winners.Who ranked last week? Ohio State, Penn State and LSU held onto the top three spots. Oregon slid into No. 4, and No. 18 South Florida ranked for the first time in seven years. Arizona State, Florida and SMU got the boot.Who decides the rankings? The Top 25 voters are over 60 journalists covering college football for AP members and other news organizations. They’re urged to base their votes on head-to-head results, not reputation, preseason speculation or regional bias.
