REIDSVILLE, N.C. — Reidsville High School junior   Dionte Neal, a two-sport standout and the 2024-25 Gatorade Player of the Year for North Carolina boys basketball, announced Sunday that he will continue his basketball career at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Neal made his decision during a 2 p.m. ceremony at Reidsville High School’s  gymnasium, streamed live on WFMY News 2 and WFMY+.

A 5-foot-9 point guard, Neal has led the Rams to back-to-back NCHSAA 2A state championships. This season, he averaged 22.9 points, 9.3 assists and 7.1 steals per game, while shooting 62.6% from 3-point range.

In addition to basketball, Neal is a standout on the football field, making him one of the state’s top dual-sport athletes.

The announcement was followed by a community cookout at Lake Reidsville.

Neal had offers from several programs, including Boston College, North Carolina, Old Dominion, Duke and Appalachian State, before choosing UNC Greensboro for basketball.
