Footscray Bulldogs head coach Stewart Edge has been named coach of the 2025 Smithy’s VFL Team of the Year.

Edge coached 15 wins from 18 games this home and away season, claiming the minor premiership for finishing top of the ladder.

He also led the Bulldogs to a minor premiership in his debut season (2021) after finishing the COVID-affected season undefeated with an average winning margin of 40 points.

Edge’s next game will no doubt be one of his biggest at the helm, with the Bulldogs to host Southport in the 2025 VFL Grand Final this Sunday 21 September at IKON Park.

The ‘Scray enters the decider on a 13-match winning streak, having defeated Frankston by 80 points in the Qualifying Final and Box Hill by 31 points in the Preliminary Final.

The Bulldogs reached the VFL Grand Final in 2016 when they claimed their second premiership in three years by defeating the Casey Demons by 31 points.
