Some NFL fans think Tua Tagovailoa was too honest when talking about Josh Allen.
The 0-2 Miami Dolphins badly need a win when facing the 2-0 Buffalo Bills on Thursday night. While Allen is off to a strong start, Tagovailoa has already thrown three interceptions for a reeling offense.

During Tuesday’s press conference, Tagovailoa made some surprisingly candid comments about Allen.
“He’s top tier,” Tagovailoa said of Allen. “If it’s not with his arm, it’s with his legs. That dude can do nearly anything he wants, so definitely different skillset for me. I can’t do half of what he does when it comes to running the ball and any of that. And then with how he can just chuck a ball down the field, he’s supreme when it comes to that.”

Fans aren’t debating Tagovailoa’s assessment, but they questioned whether the Dolphins quarterback was overly complimentary of his AFC East rival.

“Not that Tua Tagovailoa is wrong, but that’s not what I want to hear from a quarterback I gave $212 million contract extension to,” Michael Hauff noted.
“Don’t think I’ve ever seen an NFL QB come out and say how much better the opposing team’s QB than he is in my life,” a fan said.
‘Even though it’s true, why on earth would you say this?” a fan asked. “No teammate is going to like their QB talking down on themselves.”
“Don’t like this energy at all,” a fan said.

“His confidence is definitely shot,” Zachary Grier claimed of Tagovailoa.
Where’s the lie?
Is it self-deprecating to acknowledge something fairly obvious?
Allen has 36 rushing touchdowns since the start of 2022. Tagovailoa has zero.
Tagovailoa hasn’t reached 75 rushing yards in a single season since tallying a career-high 128 in 2021. Allen, on the other hand, has 89 through the 2025 campaign’s first two games.
Even if Tagovailoa possessed that same athleticism, the Dolphins probably wouldn’t want him venturing outside the pocket nearly as much as Allen. While Allen hasn’t missed a game since his 2018 rookie season, the Miami quarterback has suffered multiple concussions throughout his career.

Tagovailoa was never celebrated for his arm strength, even when he led the NFL in passing in 2023. They’re undoubtedly different players with diverging skill sets.
Still, Dolphins players and fans probably don’t want to hear the quarterback praise Allen at his own expense before a crucial Week 3 matchup.
