Lions assistant-coach Dale Morris has been named in the best 25 Western Bulldogs players all-time.

Seventy-two hours after helping to plot the Bulldogs’ downfall at the Gabba on Friday night the Lions backline coach was among those recognised at a function in Melbourne to celebrate the Dogs’ 100 years in the AFL.

He was included in the 2000-25 category with Bob Murphy, Matthew Boyd, Tom Liberatore, Ellie Blackburn and Marcus Bontempelli, who was ranked #2 all-time behind Ted Whitten Snr and ahead of Chris Grant (#3), Gary Dempsey (#4) and Doug Hawkins (#5).

Morris, 42, played 253 games with the Bulldogs from 2005-19 and sits equal 13th on the club’s all-time games list. He played 14 finals and was a member of their 2016 premiership side when he was runner-up in the best & fairest.

Originally drafted with pick #19 in the rookie draft in November 2004, he had a total of nine top 10 finishes in the B&F. He also finished 3rd in 2009, 4th in 2006-08, 5th in 2011-13, 6th in 2007-14 and 10th in 2010, was All-Australian in 2008 and played for Australia in the International Rules series in 2005.

A member of the Dogs coaching panel in retirement and inducted to the Bulldogs Hall of Fame in 2023, he had moved to Queensland for family reasons in 2023 and worked with the club in development before joining the senior AFL coaching panel in 2024.
