Former NRL centre Konrad Hurrell has been announced as a signing for FC Lezignan, who compete in the Super XIII (formerly known as the French Elite One Championship).
It comes after the hulking centre was de-registered by St Helens in August in order for the Super League giants to secure a loan deal for Salford backrower Brandon Wright, who will join St Helens for the rest of the season.
Hurrell began his career at the English powerhouse in style, quickly winning both the League Leaders’ Shield and Super League title in 2022, followed by the World Club Challenge the following year against the Penrith Panthers.
Unfortunately for Hurrell, injuries soon followed, with his 2024 season cut short due to neck surgery, which initially saw him cleared to return in November.

Hurrell managed only one first-grade appearance after that, alongside a handful of games in the second-tier competition as he continued to battle ongoing injury complaints.
Despite his fitness struggles, Hurrell still made 64 appearances for the Saints, scoring 26 tries and often showcasing the barnstorming attack that made him a cult hero in the NRL.
Hurrell was still spoken about glowingly by St Helens upon his departure, with the split amicable, including Hurrell joking about his exit on social media.
“Koni is such a larger-than-life character, one that we have loved being part of our club, and we truly thank him for his efforts as a Saint,” head coach Paul Wellens said.
Before exiting the NRL, Hurrell played 71 games for his hometown New Zealand Warriors before 45 games with the Gold Coast Titans, in an NRL career spanning eight seasons and producing 55 tries.
Known for his powerful running, nuggety frame and underrated speed, Hurrell became a fan favourite everywhere he went for his bullocking charges and exciting tries.
There is no doubt that in France he will be an asset for FC Lezignan and still has plenty left in the tank to contribute provided he can stay healthy.
