The Australian city of Melbourne on Thursday launched a unique international basketball project targeting cities with significant Greek and Serbian communities with Panathinaikos BC defeating Partizan 91- 82 at John Cain Arena.Â
The Pavlos Giannakopoulos Tournament honors the late Panathinaikos president, who died in 2018, while bringing European basketball rivalries to global diaspora communities.Â
Organizers plan annual tournaments worldwide in similar locations. Melbourne was selected for its large Greek and Serbian populations.
