On the strength of her doubles title in Korea, Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic has returned to the top of the world rankings.
Siniakova replaced Taylor Townsend of the United States at the top of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) doubles rankings released Monday.
In the Korea Open doubles final Sunday in Seoul, Siniakova teamed up with her countrywoman Barbora Krejcikova to beat Maya Joint of Australia and Caty McNally of the United States in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6), in Seoul.
Siniakova had been No. 2 behind Townsend prior to the victory. She had first reached No. 1 in the doubles rankings in October 2018 and ended the 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2024 seasons at the top spot.
Krejcikova jumped 27 spots to reach No. 59.
Siniakova and Krejcikova have been a wildly successful tandem, having won seven Grand Slam doubles titles and the 2021 Olympic gold medal together. Siniakova also won the 2024 Olympic mixed doubles gold medal with Tomas Machac.
Siniakova also made it to the semifinals in the singles at the Korea Open, and it helped her move up from 77th to 62nd in the WTA singles rankings.
The singles champion in Seoul, Iga Swiatek of Poland, stayed at No. 2, while the runner-up, Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia, remained at No. 11.
