An NRL veteran of almost 250 games has made the decision to retire following a two-season spell in Super League.
Tariq Sims was one of 13 players released by Catalans Dragons at the end of the 2025 season and he becomes the fourth from that bunch to retire.
Sam Tomkins and Elliott Whitehead confirmed their retirement at the time whilst fellow former NRL man Reimis Smith announced his later, causing surprise given the fact he’s just 28.
Sims now becomes the latest to hang up the boots with the 35-year-old calling time on an impressive career that spanned 14 years.
He is part of a rugby league family that includes brothers Ashton and Korbin, who both also played in Super League, sister, Ruan, who was a dual-code international, as well as reported London Broncos target Reagan Campbell-Gillard, who is his cousin.
Capped five times by Fiji and with six appearances for New South Wales, Sims ends his career following his second season with Catalans.

Tariq Sims confirms retirement after Super League release
He joined ahead of the 2024 season from Melbourne Storm but he’d spent the bulk of his career at St George Illawarra and his debut club North Queensland Cowboys.
In total, Sims played almost 250 NRL games and then made 37 in Super League for Les Dracs, including 16 in his injury-hit 2025 campaign.
Taking to social media to bid farewell to the game, Sims penned a lengthy message that saw him make thanks to those who helped him.
“As I close this chapter of my career, I want to take a moment to thank the people who made it possible,” Sims posted on Instagram.
Thanking his wife, Ashleigh, and children, Lakia and Vayla, he spoke on their support and motivation labelling his girls as the “biggest motivation and greatest joy”.
His siblings and parents were also praised with Paul McGregor, his coach at the Dragons, singled out for a ‘special thank you’ as someone who had ‘inspired, challenged and demanded the best’.
Sims concluded his statement, saying: “Lastly the NRL not only for giving me the opportunity to play, but also for allowing my family, who wholeheartedly love this game, to be a part of it for so long. I know I’ll continue to be involved in this great game in some capacity…it’s in my blood.”
