SEMO Men’s Basketball holds first official practice

  • September 23, 2025

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – The number of returners to SEMO Men’s Basketball has Head Coach Brad Korn excited.

Reigning OVC regular season champions, SEMO held their first official practice of the 2025-26 season, showcasing a team with plenty of veteran role players, looking to step up into even larger roles this year.

While there are some key departures, namely Rob Martin and Teddy Washington Jr., a bulk of the squad remains.

“We brought back a good chunk of our team, which is unheard of and unreal in this day and age, but again I think it’s the atmosphere, the environment that we have,” Korn said. Nobody has to do anything special, as long as our team is better and playing the way we can to our potential and to our standard, then I think guys will emerge and we’ll just have a really good basketball team.”

This year, Coach Korn is looking to test his squad early, with several challenging non-conference games to start.

“It’s a challenging non-con schedule, but I think it’s a group that’s ready for a challenging schedule, so we’ll see where we’re at,” Korn said. “Last year was last year. We’re focused on this year and what this group can do and how we can maximize their potential. But it’s an exciting group because there’s a lot of different pieces out there.”

The Redhawks open the season with a pair of in-state opponents, a season-opener at SLU, Monday, November 3, and a trip to Mizzou that Friday.

SEMO hosts another in-state school, Webster, for its home opener on Wednesday, November 12.

OVC play starts December 18 with a road trip to Tennessee Tech. The Redhawks, defending regular season champs, will play the reigning conference tournament champs, SIUE, on January 17 at the Show Me Center, in a rematch of last year’s OVC title game.
