It’s been an interesting week or so with the WTA Tour heading to Asia, and Iga Swiatek continuing her recent good form.

The Wimbledon champion fought back in the final of the Korea Open to stun Ekaterina Alexandrova in three sets.

Swiatek praised her opponent after beating her at the weekend, and it would appear that the Polish player is in fine form ahead of the China Open.

Swiatek lost to Amanda Anisimova at the US Open just a month or so after thrashing her 6-0, 6-0 in the All England Club final.

Swiatek’s coach admitted there were problems for her at the US Open, but now it would appear she’s back on track after her latest win.

Shortly after a semifinal exit at the French Open, Swiatek slipped to seventh in the WTA rankings, and for a player of her quality, that simply won’t do.

A solid second half of 2025 has propelled her back into second place, overtaking Roland Garros winner Coco Gauff and steamrolling ahead of her.

Gauff has taken some time to work on her serve, and ultimately, that has seen her lose grip on the place directly under Aryna Sabalenka at the top of the rankings.

Swiatek will now have ambitions to get even closer to Sabalenka before the year is out, having been number one previously.

Swiatek remains in second place but has crucially now got a nice lead over Gauff going into the next tournaments.

It’s been a brilliant second half of the year for Swiatek, and on the whole, it’s hardly been a bad one for the player who is a six-time Grand Slam champion.

Swiatek won the WTA Finals back in 2023, and if she can get another title under her belt in Asia before that event, she will begin those as the form player.

The rankings don’t lie on the WTA Tour, and after dropping to seventh, it appears to epitomise Swiatek that she’s had the fire in her heart to do something about it.
