CARY, N.C. — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team advanced to the doubles round of 16 at the ITA All-American Championships after picking up wins from both of its doubles teams on Wednesday at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina.

No. 12 ranked graduate Célia-Belle Mohr and sophomore Sophia Webster got the ball rolling for the Commodores against No. 21 Anastasiia Grechkina and Alexia Harmon of Pepperdine. Mohr opened the match with a flawless first game behind four straight service points; Vandy would not trail for the remainder of the match. The Dores’ top duo steadily wore down Grechkina and Harmon, taking the opening set 6-1 before generating a 6-0 shutout in the second. Vandy broke each of Pepperdine’s six service games and outscored the Waves 51-24 in the match. The result marks the seventh career ranked win for Mohr and Webster as a doubles pairing, their fifth against a top-25 opponent.

Following the match, No. 37 ranked junior Valeria Ray and senior Bridget Stammel took the court against Virginia Tech’s No. 19 duo of Arina Gamretkaia and Ozlem Uslu. Despite individual losses in singles from both Ray and Stammel earlier in the day, the pair bounced back in doubles. The first four games of the opening set came down to deciding points: the Dores won all four. The Hokies answered with a game win to make the score 4-1, but Vandy closed the door in the final two games to take the first set 6-1. Set two started much closer, with the Commodores holding a 2-1 lead after three games. From there, the match was all Vanderbilt. Ray and Stammel finished off the second frame 6-2 to claim the match win and move on. The pair has picked up a ranked win in three of its last four doubles matches, a stretch dating back to last season.

Thursday marks the round of 16 in the doubles main draw. Mohr and Webster open the action for the Dores tomorrow, facing NC State’s No. 25 ranked Jasmine Conway and Anna Zyryanova at 3 p.m. Ray and Stammel are set for a 3:30 p.m. match start against Ange Oby Kajuru and Susanna Maltby of North Carolina, the No. 7 ranked duo and the tournament’s No. 3 doubles seed.
