SHANE van Gisbergen will have his work cut out in tomorrow’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway, after his Trackhouse Racing team made unapproved adjustments to the #88 Chevrolet prior to practice.
As a result, NASCAR has issued numerous penalties to the team, with Crew Chief Stephen Doran ejected from the meeting, the team have lost their pit stall selection, van Gisbergen will be forced to start at the rear of the field, and he will have to make a stop and go penalty after the race start.
Full details of the indiscretion have yet to be revealed.
The penalty mirrors similar sanctions handed out earlier in the day to Spire Motorsports’ Michael McDowell, who made similar unapproved adjustments.
Cody Ware, meanwhile, failed technical inspection twice and had his Rick Ware Racing Crew Chief, Dave Jones, ejected from the event.
In qualifying, van Gisbergen had set the 24th fastest time after being 22nd in practice.
The race is the second in the NASCAR Cup Series’ Round of 12, with the first race at New Hampshire won by Ryan Blaney, who crashed in practice, and will be forced to start at the rear of the field with van Gisbergen and McDowell.
The race is set for a green flag at 5:00am AEST on Monday.
