Seven former Alabama Basketball players had a chance to shine in Vegas this week.

Chris Youngblood (Oklahoma City Thunder), Kira Lewis (Miami Heat), Grant Nelson (Brooklyn Nets), Clifford Omoruyi (Toronto Raptors), Jaden Shackelford (Golden State Warriors), Aaron Estrada (Memphis Grizzlies), and Alex Reese (Memphis Grizzlies) had an opportunity to earn an NBA contract.

Youngblood made a case for the Thunder’s (4-1) last two-way contract. He started all five games averaging 12.4 points and made 52% of his threes in five games. In the Thunder’s 104-85 win against the Pacers (3-2), Youngblood put up 21 points in 22 minutes and made five 3-pointers. Including the Salt Lake City Summer League, he averaged 11 points, on 49% from the field and 40% from three through eight games.

Lewis made his impact felt for the Heat (2-3). Lewis played in four games and averaged eight points with 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists. In the Heat’s 93-92 victory over the Bucks (1-4), He had ten points with two rebounds, two steals, and assist. Including the California Classic, Lewis averaged 8.7 points in 26 minutes per game.

Nelson had to make the most of his minutes with the Nets (1-4) as the team had four first rounders play. Nelson played in five games and averaged six points with 4.4 rebounds in 19 minutes. Nelson is on a Exhibit-10 contract and will need to impress more in training camp to get an improved deal with the team. 

Omoruyi only played in 11 combined minutes over three games for the Raptors (4-1). He recorded four points, four rebounds, and two blocks. Omoruyi is on an Exhibit-10 contract and is in the same situation as Nelson.

Shackelford contributed to three wins for the Warriors (3-2). In five games, he averaged 8.4 points and 3.8 rebounds. In the Warriors 96-84 win over the Grizzlies (2-3) 96-84 win over the Grizzlies, Shackleford had 12 points with four rebounds and four assists. Including the California Classic, Shackelford averaged nine points in 22 minutes over seven games. 

Estrada had trouble getting playing time in Salt Lake City but got more in Vegas. Estrada averaged 5.6 points in 14 minutes over 3 games for the Grizzlies. In the Utah Summer League, he scored 14 points with four rebounds and seven assists. 

Reese was waived by the 76ers (3-2) a day on July 9 and it appeared he would not be in Vegas when he was not seen on the bench of the team’s first game but Reese found a way. He entered the game during the Grizzlies 92-88 loss to the Atlanta Hawks (4-1). Reese played seven minutes and recorded one rebound. Reese had reportedly been offered by Suwon KT Sonicboom of Korean Basketball League according to Bama Central’s Will Miller on July 10.

Mark Sears (Milwaukee Bucks) and Josh Primo (Chicago Bulls) both missed the Summer League with a left calf strain and left foot injury.
