Expectations were high for the Boston Celtics last season. They won the NBA Championship in 2024 and had retained much of their title-winning squad. Boston’s starting five will look quite different this season after the splashy departures of both Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porziņģis via trade. Of course, the Celtics received some pieces in return, including Anfernee Simons, who averaged around 20 points per game in three consecutive seasons with the Portland Trailblazers.Â
Perhaps the most significant addition this season, however, will be the potential return of Jayson Tatum, who has been sidelined with an Achilles tendon rupture since April. It’s unknown if Tatum will heal in time to help his squad this season, but the question of his return will have massive implications for Boston’s fortunes in 2025-26.Â
