Veteran Winnipeg Jets centre Jonathan Toews “tweaked something” during Tuesday’s pre-season loss to the Minnesota Wild, according to head coach Scott Arniel.

“We’ll just wait until we get home and get it looked at and go from there,” Arniel said on 680 CJOB’s post-game radio show.

#NHLJets coach Scott Arniel also told Paul and Mitch that Vlad Namestnikov says he’s fine. He was pulled from the game by the concussion spotter after the dangerous hit from behind by Minnesota’s Yakov Trenin.

Toews had just over 10 minutes of ice time before leaving with the undisclosed injury in the second period.

The 37-year-old Winnipeg native signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Jets this off-season after being away from the game for two seasons due to health issues.

In other injury news, forward Vladislav Namestnikov took a hard hit from Wild forward Yakov Trenin in the third period.

Arniel revealed after the game that Namestnikov was fine and was taken out of the game by a concussion spotter.

Toews scored 15 goals and 16 assists over 53 games with the Blackhawks in 2022-23, the last time he played in the NHL.

A three-time Stanley Cup champion, Toews was considered one of the best players in the NHL during his prime, recording 372 goals and 511 assists over 1,067 career games with the Blackhawks.

Toews, who captained Chicago from 2008 to 2023, has 45 goals and 74 assists over 137 career playoff games.

Winnipeg is 1-3 in the preseason with one more game against the Calgary Flames on Friday left on their schedule.

The Jets, who won last year’s Presidents’ Trophy before being eliminated in the second round by the Dallas Stars in six games, open the 2025-26 regular season against the Stars at home on Oct. 9.
